Butterflails! Punchline, it's all good, but...
almost 7 years ago – Thu, Jun 22, 2017 at 08:14:04 PM

... these dang butterflies! When we pulled the protective film off the "Math Butterfly" Powder Guides, some teensy bits of film have clung-on like sttos-era klingons (not the nice kind.) The manufacture has told us that the heat from the laser partially seals the protective film to the cutting edges, and because the Butterfly design is so complex, there are way more edges which makes it inevitable that some bits will want to stay stuck on. It is relatively simple to get the film bits off with a pin, and they are not harmful even if they stayed on, but we want everyone to receive nice shiny film-free Pie Guides so we are doing our best to get all these bits off the Butterflies for you!

I've posted a quick video to show you the process with the butterflies. With all the other guides it is a fairly straight-forward bagging and tagging process. Suffice it to say, we will be requesting that all future batches of Pie Guides be delivered from the manufacturer sans films... Learning... learning.

1 down... a few more to go.

Anyhoo, we're plugging away at it and will keep you apprised of our progress! As always thank you for your continued patience and support. I don't know 'bout you, but I sure can't wait to get back to making epic pie videos for ya'll! :D

"Film Peeling" Progress Report
almost 7 years ago – Mon, Jun 05, 2017 at 06:47:24 PM

Hello! I have hired a team and we've gotten through 1/4 of the "film peeling" - we're on track to be complete by the end of next Sunday.

I shall be speaking with the manufacture tomorrow about ways to avoid this added labour in the future... It will have taken 80 man hours just to get the protective film off these 5000 units by the time we are done O.o Anyhoo, once the film is off, it should be fairly short work to pop them in the polybags and put the stickers on, and then they will be off to BackerKit who is handling the fulfillment for us!

I will keep you posted at each step. Hope you have a happy Monday!

Pies Are Awesome’s First Cookbook “Pie-Modding” - Early Access Sample for Kickstarter Backers!
almost 7 years ago – Wed, May 24, 2017 at 06:14:32 PM

It's been busy times at Pies Are Awesome headquarters (aka my living room)! As you may recall, we blew through all of our stretch goals in short order on this campaign due to your general awesomeness… One of those stretch goals (the $10,000 mark) was to produce a cookbook that would help up the profile of pies to a more epic status. I am happy to say this has come to pass and I will shortly be releasing my first book on the topic: Pie-Modding!

...100 pages dedicated to the art of modifying store-bought pies to create works of edible art! And as backers of my Kickstarter, you get the first peek at a free sample. (I’ll follow up with a backers-only download link.)

The full book is available on Amazon June 5th.

Thank you again for all your support on this pie-oneering journey! As always happy to answer any questions and have an amazing day :)

Update: Packing Packing Packing!
almost 7 years ago – Tue, May 23, 2017 at 10:49:58 PM

We are hard at work packing up all 5000 units to ship to Backerkit! The sticker labels arrived and look great. It is taking us a bit longer than anticipated to bag and tag everything because the Pie Guides came back from the manufacturer with a protective film added to both sides (the samples they gave us had this removed already - apparently it protects the guides from getting burned by the lasers and keeps off any other contaminants from the factory.) We have to painstakingly remove this film from each side with a pin which is an unexpected time-consuming step, but we're working our way through them!

More soon... :)
